Clinical Clearance Requirements

In preparation for clinical rotations, students must submit all required clinical clearance documentation by the established deadlines. Students should refer to the Clinical Clearance Canvas course for detailed instructions regarding each requirement and are encouraged to contact the Clinical Coordinator with any questions or concerns.

Weeks 1 - 8

  2. Student schedules a medical appointment with a licensed healthcare provider
  3. Student completes required bloodwork and immunization titers
  4. Student participates in mandatory American Heart Association (AHA) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training and obtains a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Week 9 (Due by Saturday 11:59 PM)

  1. Completed student and healthcare provider health forms
  2. Laboratory work, including all required immunization and titer reports
  3. If required, a full chest x-ray report within the last three (3) months
  4. Non-expired government-issued photo identification (passport or driver’s license and provide proof of a social security card)
  5. Proof of health insurance
  6. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
  7. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification card (must remain current for the duration of all clinical rotations)

Week TBD (Due by Saturday 11:59 PM)

  1. Urine drug screening (due by the designated deadline)
  2. Background check (instructions and deadlines to be provided separately)

Students who fail to submit health forms in totality by the established due dates will be withdrawn from the clinical course, and a course designation of WF will be assigned. Students are reminded that a WF will be treated as a course failure, which may impede the ability to progress in the program. Failure to comply with the clinical clearance process outlined above for a second time will result in immediate dismissal from the Sterile Processing Technician program.

Students are responsible for retaining copies of all submitted documentation provided to the Clinical Coordinator. The Allied Health - Surgical Department reserves the right to make administrative adjustments to clinical placements as necessary.
