2026 Alumnus of the Year - Lachanee Scott, Esq., Classes of 2016 and 2018
Lachanee Scott, a proud Jamaican immigrant, describes herself as “first generation everything.” She began her journey at Berkeley College in 2015, where she was enrolled in the Honors Program, an active volunteer, and a Federal Work Study in the Academic Advisement Department. She graduated with an Associate’s degree in Justice Studies – Criminal Justice in 2016 and a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies in 2018, where she received the Robert Maher Outstanding Student Award.
After graduation, Scott worked as a commercial real estate paralegal before earning her Juris Doctor from New York Law School in 2025. There, she earned a seat on the Dean’s Leadership Council after having performed in the top 25 percent of her division. She was also a student affiliate of the Center for Real Estate Studies, and held leadership roles with the Black Law Students’ Association and the Caribbean Law Students’ Association. Additionally, Scott gained hands-on experience as a Student Attorney in the Non-Profit and Small Business Clinic.
At the New York Law School Commencement, Scott was selected as Class Speaker. She received the Dean’s Award for First Generation Professional Excellence and Leadership and the D. George Levine Memorial Award.
Scott is an attorney focused on real estate and development law in New York City. She was selected as a 2025 WX Scholar in the New York Women Executives in Real Estate Scholars Program and is a member of the Metropolitan Black Bar Association and the CRE Finance Counsel Young Professionals Network.
